Orthodontics aims to treat patients with dental alignment irregularities, which are often in the form of crowded teeth and a bad bite. Initially, orthodontics focused on the treatment of adolescent teeth, but adults now form a significant amount of orthodontic patients.
Apart from crooked teeth, overbites, underbites, and crossbites, orthodontics may also treat temporomandibular disorders (TMD).
One of the most common forms of orthodontic treatment is metal braces, which are made of brackets, wires, and bands. Another is Invisalign, which is a removable type of aligner that is completely transparent. It mechanically works the same way as metal dental braces.
